Day 7, Open Doors, Open Hearts
Earlier this week was the National Roof Over Your Head Day, a time to reflect with gratitude on have shelter.
On the western archepeligo of Sweden there is a little red house with white trim and an apple tree fortified against grazing deer. When JE and I first arrived in Gothenburg we already had friends. They live in this little house. Mats and Sivan, (friends of my sister's when they visited her now exboyfriend in Hawaii) arranged for us to come visit them, spend the night, made us a picnic on the rocks by the sea. Over the two years we lived in Gothenburg, these friends were part of our lives, open hearts and open doors. There were so many games of Hand and Foot, and so many luscious loaves of homemade bread. They helped us move apartments twice. They offered home in a strange land, love in a place we didn't know anyone. They're some of my favorite people on this planet. We lost Mats to cancer earlier this year. I'd like to memorialize him as part of this Julkalendar and tell Sivan you both have a home in my heart forever.
I am grateful for the roof ober my head and the people who fill my life with joy.
Can you find their neighbor's cat on the porch?
