Day 4, Advent

The first week of December we were visiting new friends outside Goslar Germany. It was the first time I had grilled Raclette. It was the first time I had seen advent candles lit as intended. One of the four candles in the stand, lit to commemorate the first Sunday leading up to Christmas. I asked if there were ceramony or meaning and was asured, no, it's just a candle. But every week another candle would be added and so the light would grow as the days get shorter. Others have named each candle to represent Hope, Faith, Joy and Love. There are other names and symbols as well, but I'll let you discover that. I love the image of gathering light as the darkness grows. And the tradition of gathering together within that light.
