Day 3, Celebrations

Day 3, Celebrations A wreath. Just a wreath. They've been adorning doors and walls for millenia. It fascinates me that we carry on the traditions of the ancients, and without much thought. I think the need to connect to our heritage is instilled in our hearts, we need it. A wreath is a symbol of the continuity of life; though to the ancient Greco Romans, it represented victory. Perhaps it is one in the same. Tradition grounds us, allows us to share in our communities. There are traditions for joy and grief. The Midsummer tradition of a wreath of flowers in the hair, the funereary wreaths found in burial sites. In Austria, I visited an old ruined castle and fixated on the spider webs running between the gaps in the stones. Similarly we structure our lives on the past without even being aware.
